Hypocrisy is no respecter of political boundaries. It luxuriates right through the spectrum. But there is no doubt that the more unctuous the person, the more delicious is the discovery of their hypocrisy.
No, I don’t mean Kevin Rudd. Though overtly Christian, he carefully eschews the “Holy Joe” tag and makes it clear he’s not perfect. And if all he did in New York after a long, tedious day as our observer at the UN, was get drunk and ogle some pretty girls strip and gyrate at a gentlemen’s club called Scores, who cares? Give the guy a break. Aren’t we grown up enough to accept that politicians are entitled to their private lives. Making that a hanging offence would just about clear out Parliament. In any case, it shows that Rudd, the foreign policy wonk, is human after all. While some will complain that it’s a rare feat for a politician to go, in the space of two weeks, from poster boy for the Australian Christian Lobby to being a future keynote speaker at Sexpo or the Eros Foundation, Rudd’s night out in New York was his business.
