Court convicts Nile's daughter

Don't suppose you saw the ABC's 7.30 Report last night.
There was a very interesting segment speculating that religion is set to play a large part in the lead-up to the federal election and the Australian Christian Lobby, among other religious groups, including the non-voting Exclusive Brethren, would be hot to trot. One thing that caught my eye, but is incidental to this blog, was that the ACL in its graphic insignia spelt "christian" with a small "c" - surely not a "Christian" way of referring to Christ. That aside, the Managing Director of the Australian Christian Lobby, which aims to see Christian principles and ethics accepted and influencing the community, and featured in last night's show, is a chappie called Jim Wallace AM.

Now Jim was a former distinguished soldier ,who left the Australian Army as a Brigadier in late 2000, after a 32-year career, which included command of the SAS Regiment and the Army's 1st Brigade.
On telly he claimed that, "19 per cent of Australians say that they attend church once a month and some nine per cent attend every week. So, it's obviously a very big constituency and any big constituency has to have a significant impact on an election. Polls show that the Christian constituency reflects in many ways, the concerns of the broader constituency, and for instance, issues like climate change and the economy, but it's also very much concerned about issues of family, of values." It seems that those middle-ground values are the subject of a questionnaire of 25 questions being prepared by the Australian Christian Lobby, which will then be sent out to the major parties. And when the political parties return the questionnaire, the results will be posted on the Christian Lobby website, so thousands of congregations around Australia will be able to judge who is best to represent them. What's this got to do with us? Well, a reliable source, tells me that, earlier this morning, Jim Wallace was here in Shepparton. Who did Jim catch up with? Well you wouldn't guess would you? Mayor Jenny Houlihan was sighted coffeeing. Not surprisingly Deputy Dallas too. Then moral crusader Paul Cahill made up the three we all know. There was another joker in the pack possibly a sky pilot of some description. All were in intense pow-wow with Jim Wallace. I've never been a great believer in mixing politics with religion, but that's just me.
We'll see what evolves, eh?
