Adult Shop in Kings Cross Raided |
|
Kings Cross police raided another adult shop this morning and seized approx 100 DVDS. It would appear that this saga is not finished yet. More as it comes to hand.
As you can see from below, Eros made it into XBIZ's top 100 Newsmakers around the world along with Eros member, AbbyWinters.com. Although XBIZ slightly confused our success in the Online Content Services Bill with our efforts in the NT Intervention by rolling them into one, this is a pat on the back for all our members who are part of this industry association.
When representatives of our sister group in the US, The Free Speech Coalition, came to Australia in 2003 and saw the personal way win which Eros interacts with the political process, they were amazed. Generally the US industry has tended to exert political influence through the court system rather than direct lobbying of politicians. Although Australian companies are now starting to go down the legal challenge road in some areas, Australia's adult industry should take a pat on the back for developing a unique style of political engagement that is very different from the way the US and Europeans do things.
Fiona and I met with ACT Chief Minister, John Stanhope yesterday and officers from ACT Tourism and Justice Dept. He agreed to raise the issue of Non Violent Erotica with the federal government again and to ask his Attorney General to bring it into the SCAG arena as well. He said that as a result of the feds intervention in the NT recently, that the industry had been badly damaged at all levels by the allegations of the use of X films to aid sexual abuse in remote communities and that the issue had produced a staggering amount of mail and email from christian and other lobby groups. He said that this campaign had influenced members of parliament around the country and inferred that we had a lot of public relations work to do to repair the damage. We explained our own email campaign and the ilovesex website but he indicated that we needed to marshall more support from the industry to counter the opposition. This opposition he said, had now moved on to the ACT's proposal to legalise Gay Marriage and he recognised it as such but said we still had to claw back on the PR stakes. Notwithstanding this he agreed with and was very supportive of our plan to get NVE back up into the federal arena.
