Porn movies seized at community

Illegal X-rated movies were seized from a remote community in southeast Arnhem land yesterday. Police seized 32 DVDs from a store in Numbulwar, about 570km southeast of Darwin. The unauthorised copied films sell for about $30. Police said the DVDs were not packaged correctly for classification or sale, with some stored only in plastic sleeves. A 54-year-old man is to be summonsed for several offences, including selling unclassified films and possessing unclassified films for sale or exhibition.
Anyone with information can call police. The seizure comes just weeks after a ban on X-rated pornography was announced by the Federal Government as one of the measures to tackle child abuse in the NT's indigenous communities. Pornography was highlighted in the Little Children are Sacred report as one of the key factors fuelling child abuse. The Northern Territory News understands Attorney-General Syd Stirling is in discussions with the Federal Government to ban hardcore porn in the NT.
