Permit stalling frustrates Wilson |
Greater Shepparton City Council has decided to defer making a decision on an application by Club X to extend its planning permit for land in Carroll Rd, Shepparton East, until it meets in October. It took council more than half an hour to agree on the matter at its ordinary council meeting yesterday,
which was complicated by the sale of the land—2-4 Carroll Rd—to a local businessman on Friday. Council had recommended the planning permit be extended by six months. Councillor Sondrae Johnson brought five pages of notes to the meeting containing reasons why council should reject the
application.
Council eventually voted on a new motion to defer making a decision on the matter until October, and after the sale’s settlement period has passed. Some councillors, including Cr Bruce Wilson, were visibly frustrated by the stalling proceedings. ‘‘Can someone please read some information now,’’ Cr Wilson once demanded. Mayor Jenny Houlihan said the application to extend the planning permit would probably become irrelevant. ‘‘I think some of the councilors wanted to take the opportunity, if they could, to actually stop that permit right now,’’ Cr Houlihan said. ‘‘I guess it’s just a little bit of insurance. ‘‘Council voted that they would bring it up again . . . it doesn’t really matter because as far as we know, if everything goes to plan, the permit will be allowed to run out and it is of no interest to the new owner.’’ |
