Liberals reject attack on accidental porn role

THE Liberal Party accused Labor of a "grub" smear campaign last night after a pornographic movie was leaked to Channel 9 featuring an appearance by the husband of the South Coast MP Shelley Hancock.

Oswald Hancock's appearance in the film is not sexual. It involves him playing cricket.

Mrs Hancock admits the filmmakers were using their holiday resort to make movies but says the Hancocks had no knowledge that they were pornographic or that her husband was in one of the films.

Allegations that the Hancocks' property had been used in a pornographic film first appeared during the 2003 election campaign, before Mrs Hancock won the seat from Labor.

At the time she said she thought the filmmakers were making a documentary when filming on her property in 1990.

She told Channel 9 last night that as soon as she and her husband found out what the filmmakers were doing, the crew and actors were asked to leave.

The leaking of the video two days before the election could affect a seat that Mrs Hancock holds by 1.7 per cent, but which the Liberal Party is confident of retaining.

The Liberal state director, Graham Jaeschke, called Labor "a grub of a party".

"They have been in the gutter and they just want everyone else to get in there with them," he said. "Labor want this election to be about Morris Iemma, then Morris Iemma should start taking responsibility for this grubby campaign."

The Labor Party's general secretary, Mark Arbib, said the video "did not come from me".

"The Liberals have run one of the most negative campaigns in the state's history. They haven't run one positive ad," he said.

He said the Coalition was "throwing mud left, right and centre" and this a was case of the "pot calling the kettle black".

Mrs Hancock told Channel 9: "He's been spliced in [to the film] without his permission or knowledge. ... We shouldn't look bad to anybody because we've done nothing wrong.
