In an experiment aimed at comparing the arousal rates for men and women, researchers at Canada's McGill University focused thermographic cameras on the subjects' genitals while they watched pornography. (A control group got to watch The Best of Mr Bean.) Monitoring body-temperature changes, they found that men reached maximal arousal in 664.6 seconds and women in 743 seconds. "This turns the conventional wisdom that women become aroused more slowly than men on its head," say the researchers, who noted the study's potential in the diagnosis and treatment of female sexual dysfunction.
